
Dr. Matthew Langholtz is a Natural Resource Economist in the Bioenergy Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where he serves as Principal Investigator of the Supply Analysis Project. His research focuses on biomass resource economics, short-rotation woody crops, bioenergy from forest resources, and bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS). He has developed biomass supply curves at project, regional, and national scales, and has contributed extensively to the U.S. Department of Energy¡¯s Billion-Ton Reports and related resource assessments. Dr. Langholtz received his Ph.D. in Forest Economics from the University of Florida in 2005 and a BS in Forestry from Oklahoma State University. His prior experience includes agroforestry extension in Latin America with the U.S. Peace Corps, resource assessments for the DOE- and USDA-funded Wood to Energy Outreach Program, and feedstock supply development with BioResource Management, Inc. He brings expertise in both economic modeling of bioenergy systems and the practical deployment of cellulosic biomass crops in the Gulf South.
